Gasparilla Pirate Carnival

pirate ship-Gasparilla

Breeze cajoling my skin,
palm trees standing tall and thin
reaching to skies of blue muslin.
Pirate boats cruising by,
patches worn on one eye,
beads tossed in the air,
beads, beads everywhere.
Gasparilla is today,
a celebration in Tampa bay.

Today is a Pirate carnival in Tampa, Florida. The entire town turns into one big party where people go all out with pirate costumes and beads. A pirate ship marks the invasion of the town where the mayor surrenders the keys to the city. Hundreds of boats flood the bay. A sea of people partying everywhere watch the street parade, drink merrily,  and catch beads tossed everywhere.
